Travel Rules and Regulations

  • Passport Requirements — The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) requires U.S. and Canadian travelers to present a passport or other document that denotes identity and citizenship when entering the U.S, and is effective as of June 1, 2009 for land and sea travel into the U.S. WHTI went into effect for air travelers on January 23, 2007. • Secure Flight Program — Airlines will be required under a federally-mandated program to collect a passenger’s full name, date of birth and gender when making an airline reservation. The program, recommended by the 9/11 Commission, will be phased in during 2009 and 2010, and is designed to prevent passengers with names similar to those of the watch list from being inconvenienced at the gate when boarding.
