Wordlock®, Inc.

Wordlock®, Inc. was founded in 2002 by Todd Basche. The Wordlock® combination padlock, its signature product, was inspired when Basche observed the difficulty members of his family had with remembering numerical padlock combinations. He designed the Wordlock® to use words, rather than numbers, under the premise that they’re easier to remember. Wordlock® is a registered trademark of Wordlock®, Inc. and is protected by U.S. Patent No. 6,621,405 with other patents pending worldwide. Wordlock® travel locks are Travel Sentry® approved.

Wordlock’s® patented technology can be licensed to create word-based luggage, business and computer cases. Patented software creates favorite letter combinations with up to 10,000 possible permutations and also prevents spelling of inappropriate words. Wordlocks® can be easily reset with new combinations and are available as travel locks, bike locks and standard padlocks made of hardened steel, for deployment anywhere you’d use a standard numerical lock.

“As the push-button phone gradually replaced the dial, combination locks that use words are the next generation of security,” says Basche. “Words are our most natural form of communication, and easier to remember than a series of numbers. Wordlock® products are secure, and it is an amazing innovation to a category that hasn’t seen a significant change since the 1800s.”
