As a child, Etsuo Miyoshi suffered from polio, which later created a slight handicap in his right leg. Over the years, traveling with heavy luggage became increasingly difficult. As a frequent traveler, Miyoshi recognized the need for a simple product that would enable him to comfortably walk with his luggage. He envisioned luggage that could be easily rolled upright in all directions, eliminating the common action of tilting and dragging, and significantly reducing stress on the body. Miyoshi later founded Swany Luggage and became president and chief executive officer of Swany Corporation, Japan. After several years of research and development, the first Walking Bag™ was introduced to the Asian market in 1999. Swany Luggage made its debut in the United States at The Travel Goods Show in Las Vegas in 2003.

“According to an independent lab test, a Walking Bag™ requires one-sixth the effort to maneuver when compared to other rolling luggage of similar size and weight,” notes Tom Bridges. All Walking Bags™ feature a patented, weight-bearing, push-button retractable handle and four independent swivel wheels. The special design allows the luggage to complete a 360° motion so travelers can glide the luggage alongside, in front of, or behind them.
